James learnt to write music in an unconventional way; listening to the background music on the TV, deciphering the chords and melodies on the upright piano in his Devonian home.

 

Inspired to further explore the relationship between music and film, James developed his own musical voice characterised by mellow piano, icy string textures and multiple layers of piano. 

 

Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire in 2018, James has had success in writing for more film and tv projects gaining recognition when screening at popular film festivals in England, Scotland, Italy, Argentina and more. He has also had the pleasure of working with a range of exceptional UK-based orchestras, choirs and soloists to perform his music, including The Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and Oxford Millennium Orchestra.
