James learnt to write music in a slightly unconventional way - listening to the music on the TV and working out the chords and melodies, using the upright piano in his Devonian home by the sea.

 

Inspired to further explore the relationship between music and film, James developed his own musical voice characterized by mellow piano, icy string textures and rich harmonies.

 

Since graduating from Leeds Conservatoire in 2018, James has had success in writing for more film and tv projects gaining recognition when screening at popular film festivals in England, Scotland, Italy, Argentina and more. He has also had the pleasure of working with a range of exceptional UK-based orchestras, choirs and soloists to perform his music, including The Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra and Oxford Millennium Orchestra.
